"No one who cooks cooks alone. Even at her most solitary, a cook in the kitchen is surrounded by generations of cooks past, the advice and menus of cooks present, the wisdom of cookbook writers." --- Laurie Colwin

I had no idea that Vincent Price had a cookbook, I will have to look into this. If it is your favorite it must be pretty good...Off I go to Amazon.com to have a look-see.
ReplyDeleteHoly Cow!!!! A little rich for my budget even at the used price at Amazon, now I'm really curious as to why it is so expensive, it must really be good!
ReplyDeleteI love this quote!! I know that people are using online recipes more and more, but there's just something about a well used cookbook that has floured and dog-eared pages.
ReplyDeleteAnybody who quotes Laurie Colwin, a greatly missed great food writer, is a cook after my own heart.

My favorite cook book is a Betty Crocker special edition I got from my aunt when I got married. the binding is broken and the pages are tattered but I still use it 35 years later. This aunt was suppose to be the great cook in the family but she couldn't hold a candle to my gram. Oh how I miss her cooking.

I did know that Mr.Price was a gourmet but I was unaware of the existence of this book.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing!
Never would have guessed the book, but I sure am curious now! I believe the saying:@)
ReplyDeletebeautiful quote - what a nice sentiment.
ReplyDeleteAround a couple of weeks ago would have been Vincent Prices's birthday. I heard a special radio program interviewing his son and daughter. He was such a swell man. His ancestors were chocolaters, I believe. I had forgotten that he had loved to cook.
ReplyDeleteI bet the book is great. Lucky you!

Dearest Kary...I have heard many mentions of this book over the years...would love a peek inside, especially if it's YOUR favourite!! I adore Laurie Colwin's writing...'Home Cooking' & 'More...' are 2 of my very best books on food. I wish so often that she was still with us. Much love to you my friend...and hugs to Teddy from Alice & Me xoxo
ReplyDeleteI have had this book for years and years and still make his "Toad in the Hole"!!!! You are the ONLY person I know who also has a copy!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnother one here who had no idea that Vincent Price had a special interest in cooking - please share some more....
ReplyDeletehahahah!!!! mine too. i've had mine since 1975. it is a real go to!
ReplyDeleteI just bought this cookbook online! So glad to know that you love it. I can't wait to start cooking and baking from it!
ReplyDeleteI love the quotation. I have to say I never feel alone when I am cooking. I always think of my mother for one thing. I think you told me once there was a good onion soup recipe in this cookbook.
ReplyDeleteLaurie Colwin was the dearest (to me) food writer. I just loved her writing and mourned her premature death in her early 40s. Now, what are some of your favorite recipes in the Vincent Price book and would you share them? Please? :)
ReplyDeletethat's a wonderful quote, too true!
ReplyDeleteA treasury to treasure. I need to check it out, thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteShare some recipes, please! I'm already salivating.
ReplyDeleteI love a good cookbook! Have a great thursday
ReplyDeleteI use to have a wonderful selection of great cook books and used them all the time. My Mother didn't cook much while I was growing up. I was not around any one who was really a home maker. I don't know where my sewing and cooking came from. When I was a girl all I wanted to do with my life is be a Mother and have children and sew for them and cook for them!!! I had 2 boys but only made them a vest once. I had to work in our gas station 7 days a week. 364 days a year!! I was not the Mother or cook that I wanted to be.
ReplyDeleteMore on that story another time!!
We love good healthy food. We never go out to eat!! We want to know what has been done to and put in our food so we eat home 7 days a week!! We eat really healthy food!!
Love your visits my friend!!!!
xx, Fern

This is an excellent book! So now. . .do we get to play Recipe Roulette, where one of us gives you a page number, and you have to show us your steps in making that recipe? :-) That sounds like fun to me! lol
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful cookbook and I love the quote you chose. It brings such magic and oneness to the age old craft of cooking. So many people forget what an art food preparation is. Hugs to you, Teddy and the kitties, my sweet friend.
ReplyDeleteI am not familiar with this book! But I'll be checking it out soon!
