Eclair Bakery in Arroyo Grande, CA

We took a drive south through the Edna Valley and made our way to The Eclair Bakery in the village of Arroyo Grande about 10 minutes south of San Luis Obispo. With Fall in the air I am really on the bakery hunt..... for the old fashion ones...the ones that remind me of The Cream Puff Bakery in my hometown of Los Gatos, California. We used to go there alot in the Fall because across the street was a Sprouse-Ritz. It was one of those big old drug stores with the wooden floors and all the Halloween candy. In the Fall they had stacks and stacks of the Halloween costumes you used to get in the box. We made my mother take us in that store almost daily. By the time Halloween rolled around we each had about 10 different costumes. My mom would call the neighbors the week before Halloween and ask if Kary and Mark could come trick or treating. We loved it so much we never could get enough. I still can't get enough.
and the Eclair really reminds me of The Cream Puff....could it be the name? They had some nice looking raspberry tarts....

this cute little sign was by the cash register....

this is the outside...as you can see it is very old fashion....

and they had lots of eclairs...

look at that...cherry strudel...wouldn't that be nice with a cup of tea?

simple white cupcakes....

the pie offerings for the day....

they had a nice collection of old cake stands. I LOVE vintage cake stands and have a large collection of them myself.... well, I like anything that is old and has to do with cooking and baking....

old cake decorating boxes.....

cute box of old birthday candles....

some of their vintage cooking untensils....love that egg beater..remember those?

a box of cake and sandwhich cutters...for bridge, luncheons and party occassions...who spelled sandwhich wrong..them or me?

and as you left out the door another nice collection of glass cake stands. we had a nice time and made our way back home skipping the Highway 101 and taking the Old Biddle Road instead....just old fashion.

Our childhood bakery wasn't a great memory...fat laden Lardy Cake (don't ask!) & ice cream cones filled with fake marshmallow & sprinkles..we loved them as kids but makes me cringe now! Lovely post. Love & hugs to you & Teddy, ps Gizmo found his home today!! YAY!! LOVE Alice & Me xoxox

  15. Oh my goodness Kary, I should not be reading this post! It's 10.30 pm and the sight of all those delicious goodies is making me hungry - now I'll have to be content with a mug of hot chocolate and a chocolate biscuit! Have a good week, Lesley. x

  16. Well, I still use my egg beater Kary; actually, I still use all my "stuff" that most would call vintage. It's still good so why not use it? The goodies look amazing and I'm not even hungry. Thanks for stopping by Thistle Cove Farm; I'm doing some better, no spasms but the back still hurts.

  20. Ah! Why can't cakes be good for you so you can eat more with less guilt?! Looks delicious...! I can't talk though....sitting here with a sugary coffee and a small box of luxury handmade chocolates for breakfast... (they are too good to share -they were a gift from my boss- and I reason if they are my breakfast and not in addition to breakfast....it will be okay!) I've lost all this weight being in france cleaning rooms and now despite the desire not to pile it back on....I think it is going to be hard! xxx

  26. The seasons have changed... I love the colors of trees! And Teddy, you are so beautiful! Did you see the Groomer? Marley did... her legs are as long as yours, but she weighs much more than you do.

Well, I have to tell you that the cupcakes look very good, but I'm going for the eclairs. I could probably eat three of them. What beautiful photographs.

Greg is getting ready to go camping, and I'm going to relax for a couple of days.

Take care, and have fun! I love visiting you!

    Hugs to you and Teddy!

  33. Is the Cream Puff Bakery still in Los Gatos? I'll have to check it out sometime? Is this one in Arroyo Grande as good as your old favorite? Their bakery offerings sure look fabulous. I guess it's a good thing I'm on a pension now so I wouldn't be able to leave there with everything in the store. I am a marzipan fan and like anything related so I want all my pastries with that or some sort of almond filling. There is a wonderful European bakery in Burlingame that fills the bill....pretty expensive, though.

  36. Nice collection of old-timey baking items. I wish our town could support a bakery, but we have to settle for the 'stuff' from the grocery store (or bake our own). I love bakeries, all the goodies displayed in the glass cases, the variety, the smell of icing and sugar when you walk in the door.
