julie whitmore pottery....
a pitcher from julie on a stack of ironstone plates and tiny apples....
some old Halloween chocolate molds....
made a few caramel apples from Gopher Glen. when we got to Gopher Glen the chalkboard said they had an apple called SWEET AUTUMN.....what? is that for real? is there REALLY an apple named SWEET AUTUMN...that sounds too good to be true. the lady said it was true..a new variety for this year...well, let me get a bag...and wait just a minute...does that also say LIMBERTWIG? my FAVORITE apple of all. YES...we have LIMBERTWIG today. I asked her aren't they usually ready around Halloween...she said they are early this year..well, give me another bag....Limbertwig are THE BEST for making caramel apples cause the apple is very tart...
so we gathered some apple twigs in the orchard and came home to make caramel sauce.....
what an early Fall treat we have for tonight....
after Gopher Glen we made our way out to The Avila Barn...baskets of apples are everywhere now....
pumpkins and gourds have arrived.....
what a sight....
the farmer was just unloading the pumpkins.....
pumpkins and hay....
the view from the back of the barn looking towards the Pacific ocean....the ocean is only about 3 minutes away....the sycamores line the creek leading to the sea...they are just starting to turn color.....the field is a pumpkin field...they give tractor rides on the weekends to go and pick out your pumpkin.....

Lovely post! Those halloween chocolate molds are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteyeah!!!! you got apples and pumpkins! finally1 i got a bunch too. it is almost 90 degrees here and the stink bugs are swarming. this is soooo awful. this whole part of the country is over run by them. they were imported from china in shipping containers and now they are taking over the country. it is one of the worst tings i have ever experienced. they try to get into your house any way they can even through your dryer vents. now i really need cold weather. ugh!!!!
ReplyDeleteps....your halloween collection is fabulous! sorry, i have stink bugs on my brain!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Pumpkins and caramel apples -- my faves!
ReplyDeleteCan I just say, Fall has arrived, especially at Upham Farm. those steiff kitties are so wonderful! But nothing beats those limbertwig caramel apples. You know how I feel about caramel sauce............

donkey in the pumpkin pines
These pictures certainly put me in the "Fall" mood....maybe I will finish my decorating around the house! Have a great day! xoxoxo ~Ashley
ReplyDeleteYour halloween collection of kittens, pumpkins, and vintage candles is wonderful. I don't know what a limbertwig apple would taste like, but anything would be good with carmel sauce on it! Have a lovely week-end.
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents had exactly the same black Steiff cat, the middle-sized one I think, but originally it was wearing a red ribbon. Now I wonder what became of it when we emptied the house after grandma died in 2001 and we had to sell the house...
ReplyDeleteJulie, if you happen to read this - the dish with the pumpkin garland on the rim and the pumpkin man in the middle had me go "oh...!" like a little girl entering a toy shop :-)
I will be getting my pumpkins soon, before they aer all gone...I also need to start decorating, I feel like I am late this year. The caramel apples look yummy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a BEAUTIFUL, motivating, festive inspiration for getting Fall-ified!
ReplyDeleteThat was better than a Phyllis Hoffman magazine!

LOVING your inspiring Autumn images - this is usually my favorite time of year but as we had such a short summer this time around, I wasn't quite ready for the weather to change. Your post helps remind me of what I love about this season!

Oh, Kary, your Halloween decorations are all so nostalgic and sweet! I have some vintage candles and tin pumpkins but I never thought to look on E-Bay for more. You live in such a nice area in California.
ReplyDeleteYou candy apples look so delicious! I haven't had one in years.
Teddy has gotten so big! Is he a Labradoodle? My son has a Goldendoodle who looks very much like Teddy except that he is golden color. He's a very sweet dog.
WE did manage to visit the beautiful Ahwahanee Hotel in Yosemite, but we didn't stay in the valley very long as it was 104 degrees that day! We went up to higher elevations.
Your post today so filled to the brim with seasonal photos! I adore all your Halloween decorations and it makes me excited for the days to come. I think I will need to do a bit of decorating myself though I will need help with my bum wrist.
ReplyDeleteThe apples...made me want one of your caramel apples right now....so yummy and i like the clever way of using apple twigs too.
Oh my goodness, what a perfectly fabulous fall post. I loved it. Those caramel apples look heavenly and I love the donkey. Beautiful.

These pictures are so divine. I love all of them from the vintage Halloween decorations to the blue/white pumpkins.
ReplyDeleteYour Halloween decorations are wonderful. You have shown just about everything Fall that I can think of. I love the pumpkins, apples, and all the paper mache and candles that you showed. The chocolate molds really caught my eye, my daughter and I owned a candy store for 6 yrs, and just closed last Jan., the economy really did a number on us. Your Teddy is so beautiful and I bet he is a really good boy. Dusty is too. Thanks for coming by and have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi Kary & Teddy too! Just lovely decorations, I really love the pottery, but then I'm a "dish-a-holic! LOL!!! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteWow! That was a veritable feast for the eyes!
ReplyDeleteOh, Kary, what an absolutely wonderful collection of wonderful fall and Halloween decorations you have. And those caramel apples look so fabulous. Those are my all time favorites, especially good tart apples.
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are outstanding.
Such a beautiful collection and all the vintage harvest halloween things are cute. It was a sweet time, the times I grew up in, and I bemoan their loss. Cute little costumes, candy and fruit that was safe to eat because we knew our neighbors, tricks that were childish, never rude or mean spirited. Simpler times, certainly, for a lot of children, including me and I thank my parents for giving them to me.
ReplyDeleteNow you've gone and done it! I was mourning the eventual passing of summer and now you've got me loving the idea of Autumn. Love, love, love the stick caramel apples. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour Halloween collection makes me wicked witch green with envy. And your displays inspire me.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are surviving the summer heat that fall has brought with it. My cats are lower to the ground than usual, as well.
Love all the fall happenings around your blog! I must get to that pumpkin patch and I do make caramel apples every fall too...thanks for the reminder. xoxoxo

ReplyDeleteSending sweet overdue greetings from Frog Hollow Farm! Kary, this is a truly spectacular blog post - you outdid yourself with the photos of your wonderful Halloween collections! Sounds like you had a very productive day at the apple orchards, I've never heard of either of those apples. I love, love, love that you used apple twigs as your carmel apple holder - I've never seen that before! Ciao, bella!

I always giggle at all the decorations and preparations you all do in the US for Halloween. Here in Australia we don't do Halloween though I must say that last year there were a lot more decorations on sale so maybe it is catching on. Mind you it is Spring here so the colours don't match. Really cute shots.
ReplyDeleteI can taste your caramel apples all the way across the country! We are heading home to Wisconsin after 6 weeks on the road to Alaska...finally saw my first grouping of pumpkins for sale today in Minnesota.
