Saturday Looking For Fall

Good thing Gourmet went out of business...cause I'm not in the mood for fancy food.I want farmy and old fashioned right about now. It is windy and cool out here this late august afternoon...it's back to school and gopher glen is selling apple cider . i got my first seek-no-further apple off my tree last night. well, it fell off and i can hear my brown corn rustling in the wind. summer has slipped away. good-bye my friend.
tomorrow night we are "pretending" we are tailgating. i think football is on.

haven't opened it yet...but how could i pass it by.....

just look at that bag of candy corn. usually the bag isn't very cute... but this was darling. i don't think i am going to be able to open it.

pumpkin spice cupcake kit...bought it cause the tin was cute....

bought this cause the tin was cute too...it is filled with those really thin gingersnap cookies...the ones that i tip toe downstairs for in the middle of the night. i hope i don't regret this purchase
...it a big tin of cookies

look at that..i mean...come on...how could you NOT get this...i get one every year...

candles...the one i really like is the cupcake one..why did i just get one..you really need more than one...

this is my kitchen window...the screen and lighting makes it look bad...the sun is too bright right now as it is just starting to sink over san luis mountain...but i had to show you anyway....

i just can't help myself in the window clinger department...at least it's windy and cool today...if it was hot...these would be melting...tomorrow is the last sunday in august...farewell summer...it's been nice.

  5. I have those magizines too. INfact.. I just pulled out my recent stash that I bought. I can't wait to have this house cleaned so I can sit and read them over and over. I am looking forward to Phylis Hoffman's Celebrate Halloween issue also, it's was good last year.
    Happy last day of summer.

  9. It was a fleeting summer this year since it was cool for so long. I keep thinking of Fall with the dry leaves falling, rolling across the streets, swirling. I also want to go to Apple Hill near Placerville for Apple Donuts fresh made, warm with the dusting of Cinnamon sugar on them and of course fresh pressed apple cider. Your photos made me dream...oh I love Pumpkin scented candles!

  10. Yum! I love comfort food! I was just thinking that I can't wait for it to get cold enough for soup. Pumpkin bread sounds yummy, too! Mmmm!

  15. I am still in the summer mode - not quite ready to give it up. However, when I am ready to say goodbye to outdoor swimming and my garden, I open my arms to Autumn. It's one of my favorite seasons. And especially Halloween-love how much fun it is!

  16. Kary, can you believe it's here so soon? Definitely the same here too..lovely sun yesterday but so cold at night now & the garden overblown & fading...I must admit I find it exciting, that back to school feeling, a new start! Alice likes cool better too. Teddy's first Fall...can just see him chasing those leaves as they drop, bless his little heart! LOVE & hugs from Alice & Me xox

  17. Stuck in endless steambath summer here. We have been glad for a few days under 90 degrees. I know we won't get any cool days until October. I long for cooler climes but all my peeps are in Florida. Now we're raising another generation of Florida kids who think this weather is normal. Loved your post.

  21. I found your blog just in time for fall! What better way to usher in chilly mornings than reading a blog about a cozy farmhouse? I wish I had my own farmhouse, so I'll have to live vicariously through your blog. Thanks for sharing!

  28. Wow Kary, you are ready for Autumn!!! Your deco's are beautiful and love your photos! I love summer and I'm holding on until the last minute! LOL!!! While I love Autumn, I do not like what follows it - cold & snow! I also love maple syrup, I "re-converted" about 12 years ago after going to a friends wedding in Stow, Vermont, haven't looked back since! I even have a small bottle that I bring to restaurants when we go out to breakfast - in case they don't have real syrup! I enjoyed my visit today!

  29. Oh how is summer over already?!! I was miserable with the heat but now that it's waning I'm getting nostalgic. All of that fall stuff looks fabulous, I'm especially weak when it comes to candy corns, as disgustingly (delicious) as they are.

  30. My Dear Friend, I have the perfect website for you grandinroad.com. I got a catalog in the mail the other day and after seeing your post, I knew I had to let you know. Maybe you know already. They have Martha Stewart haunt couture! It's a combination of small size furniture and Halloween items! The only thing missing is costumes for Teddy! How could they forget the furry friends? Hope you have fun! xxoo to you and Teddy! Nancy

  36. Hi Kary!
When we were recently in delightfully chilly San Francisco I was really feeling autumn in the air! It's my favorite time of the year. Now that I'm back in hot and sultry NYC I know I have to wait a little longer. Your magazine selection looks like fun! I love all Martha Stewart publications.

By the way, I just took a loaf of your dilly bread out of the oven. I did the first part this time in my bread machine, then took it out for the last rising. It worked perfectly. In fact, it rose twice as high this time! (I'm doing all I can to keep from cutting into it right now! It smells heavenly!!)

  59. Just began my blogging journey this week. I am so glad to have stumbled upon your sight. My sister-in-law lived in your area years ago and dreams of returning. She has told me so much about the area I feel as if I have been there. I will be moving to the eastern coastal plain of North Carolina soon but I am currently in the heartland of Ohio. You would love Amish Country just north of here. Simplicity and good food abounds. Enjoy September.

  60. Just checking to see if you changed the post. It is a good post. Lots of comments..
Maybe I should leave my post up longer.

  61. Beautiful autumn post. Being the Georgia born girl that I am, I actually prefer pure cane syrup to maple, so thick that it barely pours out of the bottle. As a child I would smash butter in it and spread it on my biscuits - ummmm, wish I had some right now.

There's a place in North Beach - Cafe Divine - that has the most wonderful gingerbread with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Just had some the other day when my friend from MN was visiting.
