Rachel took the time to find this little book, wrap it up, write a treasured note, go to the post office, stand in line, mail this off...all for a person she has never even seen. But even though we have never met in person..we have a bond...a friendship..we understand each other...I feel this way about all of you...you have brought unexpected happiness and love into my world. And it means the world to me. Thank you Rachel....my heart is filled with gratitude and love. Another treasured friend I have been lucky enough to meet....in blogland.

Beautiful. I was once one of those people giving the "blank stare" you describe, but now I understand...and am now on the receiving end of those blank stares.
ReplyDeleteThis is just too sweet. I'm also continually surprised at the kindness which abounds in the blog world. My kids' third grade teacher had a big sign at the front of her class, above the chalkboard that said simply "invest in kindness". I wholeheartedly agree.
ReplyDeletethis is just so nice. i too have felt the support, love & kindness from so many amazing women throughout this past year...and i am so grateful. grateful that i have this space to express myself and grateful for all this wonderful kindness in our world!

The blogging community is great!
ReplyDeleteI'm new to blogging (4 months)but have loved reading the kind words posted on the comment sections of the blogs that I follow. I haven't been brave enough to start my own yet ,maybe soon. we'll see.
ReplyDeleteHey! Just found your blog today, and I agree with you about the wonderful blogging community... I've received fantastic little gifts from blogfriends from as far away as Scotland (I live in New York), and more than physical things, the support and understanding that regular readers give is immense (Willow knows me from my regular blog, Mental Meatloaf).
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you (speaking of the kindness of the blogiverse) would do me a tiny favor, and pop over to my blog MadMenGirl and vote for me - I'm in this contest, you see, and I need all the votes I can get.
I look forward to coming back here and visiting under my normal blog name, just as soon as this dang contest is over and I can get back to my kitchen and gardens!
Cheers,
Marcheline (aka MadMenGirl)
Now that Rachel is so thoughtful, isn't she?

I have been in blog land for a short time, and I am down the rabbit hole of new virtual friendships, combined with the blank stares of my actual friends. Let's think of it another way. During the 1964 Worlds Fair, Parker Pen matched us up with pen-pals. I had my pen-pal in Australia for years. I miss her and have lost her. Let us also think of the old days, when the post came twice a day and people penned their thoughts, madly back and forth. I also think true friendships are able to emerge from a place of reflection. I reflect on all your thoughts and experiences and beautiful writing--we are all, at heart, writers, scribblers, and pen our true hearts through this medium. Eventually, we get to meet each other, which is a destination.I, for one am entranced by all this beautiful, media rich, correspondence! So, you got me started, I'm coming to see you because I have cousins in Santa Barbara!
ReplyDeleteBlog friends are some of the best.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!

i just said on another blog - what a wonderful tribe we all build together.
ReplyDeletehappy friday
Kary, sweet Kary - I'm so so touched that you made a post from my little gift! Lovely of you, but that's your big heart again!! Anyone reading this who's lost a treasured pet - try and get a copy of this book. It is wonderful, sad, sweet & uplifting too. My mum gave me a copy over 20 years ago when I lost my old dog at 18 years...I found a copy for Kary as it so reminded me of her story with Buddy & Teddy. Thank you Kary! Have a great weekend xoxo & hugs from Alice & Me
ReplyDeleteI just met you on another blog and am glad to have found your post today. it's exactly how I feel. I started blogging a bit over a year ago--before that, I was one of those blank starers! I look forward each day to greeting my new friends from all over the world. They are interesting and very generous with their postings of food and life in general. I look forward to spending time catching up on your posts.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie

ReplyDeleteHey! I'm back as my regular alter-ego, Marcheline. Thanks for going to my other blog and following/voting!
ReplyDeleteIt's an absolutely GORGEOUS day here on Long Island - the sun is out, the breeze is coming off the water, and the butterfly bushes are waving around attracting all sorts of friends.
Hope you have a wonderful day, can't wait to see what you post next!
Cheers,
M
that is so sweet!! i do cherish our relationship as well, what a fun, wonderful little blogland we live in :) roxy sends kisses and cuddles xoxo
ReplyDeleteI soooo agree my friend...bloggers always amaze me with their kindness. Enjoy. xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt's a strange and wonderful thing, blogging, and meets several needs that we may not have been aware of, such as validation, sharing, kindness, extended hands of friendship from strangers, discovering kindred spirits and often entry into the very-different lives of other people who we would have known nothing about. I love it; my life is enriched by writing my blog and other people's, and the communication that arises from them.
ReplyDeleteDear Kary and Teddy,
ReplyDeleteI managed a few minutes on the computer and wanted to make a quick stop and say hello.
Sending love & hugs, Sandi

I am daily reminded of the treasures I've encounted since my blogging began. I don't think I would have survived the eighteen months since my job ended had I not undertaken this! Thanks for reminding me of how important this is to me.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Kary. Blogging has been such a rich addition to my life. I love the friends I have met and that means you!
