  16. My adored tabby cat died Feb. 13, so recently, so I can understand how depressed and sad you are, dear friend.
I planted some flowers in memory of my cat, and it lifts me heart to see them blooming. Maybe planting something in Buddy's honor would help you.

  23. I am so sorry to hear about Buddy. Losing a member of the family like this is devestating. Our pug Suki passed away too this past summer. I like to think of her spirit as inhabiting the squirrels, flowers, bees, and other things she liked to chase and sniff. It's hard.....I am so sorry.

  26. My husband often asks when I've been in this situation "Is it worth it? All the heartache? Why put yourself through it?" I think that's ridiculous because our animal companions bring us so much - unconditional love, trust and understanding, a true companion. When they are gone, the heartache is so very painful, but yes, the comraderie worth every minute.

Our little dog Bailey is just 3 and has been diagnosed with cancer. We initiated Chemo last week, and I hope we are doing the right thing. Absolutely heartbroken.

I'm sorry for your loss -

  27. Oh Kary...having gone through this twice myself I'm sending your the biggest heartfelt sympathies. Big hugs to you today. xo

  30. I know what it feels like. I have always had cats (have one now, she features in my blog several times) and the only bad thing about having a pet is that, usually, we outlive them and sometimes have to decide about life or death for them.
It is, by the way, 16 weeks today that my husband died. Which does not make losing a pet any less painful but (at least for me) puts things into perspective.
Here is a virtual hug for you.

  31. Dear Kary
Visiting you here for the first time today and want to send my deepest and heartfelt condolences on the loss of your Buddy. I know only too well how much you will miss him. We lost our *Buddy*, also 15, three weeks ago and I understand the pain and sadness you feel. The pain is the *other side* of the deep love you have been fortunate to share with your special companion. I am so sorry for your loss.

  40. i just can't shake this. i have felt horrible all day. when i lost my beloved freddy 5 years ago i just lost it. i cried for 3 straight months and read every pet loss book known to man. i still have them all so if you would like any of them i would be more than happy to give them to you. the only thing that saved me was getting teddy. as long as we are capable of this kind of love for animals, we should find another to shower it on them. i know how awful you feel but i am hoping you can find a way to heal yourself!

  41. There is nothing to be said that will ease the pain of your loss, but know that the passing of such a beloved pet was accompanied by the heartfelt wishes of so many for him to have a peaceful passage.

  43. "It is not just that animals make the world more scenic or picturesque. The lives of animals are woven into our very being - closer than our own breathing - and our soul will suffer when they are gone." (Gary Kowalski, Author of The Souls of Animals)

Dear Kary, I am sure that Buddy was not your first, nor may he be your last, but he will always be "the one." It is sad that this opportunity only seems to come once, but then again, how blessed are we that we were given this one chance? Buddy will always be in your heart, and so, lives on forever.

    Many, many hugs...

  60. I am so sorry for your loss, I understand the heart break & my heart goes out to you. When our family chow chow, Kennedy had to be let down (due to severe hip pain), it was a very hard decision. It has taken a lot of time to get over (she passed over three year ago & we are just now thinking about getting a new puppy). I know the void it leaves in your daily life & the vacant feeling in the house. My sincere & deep sympathy to you & your family. May this heartache pass quickly.

  68. Oh, I am so sorry! When one of James Herriot's clients would lose their dog he always advised them to get another right away. So I would always tell friends to get another one right away. "It will heal your heart" I would say. That was until my Tootsie passed. I didn't want another dog I wanted my Tootsie! It was 2 years last month that she died and I still miss her. I eventually did get another dog but there is still that space in my heart where Tootsie lives.

  107. Kary, I know this is late, but trust me it is heartfelt when I say to you I understand or I can at least relate. Our creatures great (a Bernese Mountain Dog can weigh as much as 140 pounds -- Gracie is a smaller one at 89 pounds)---and our creatures small---your Buddy--give love so far beyond what we give to them. I am lighting a little votive candle at my kitchen work table just beside my laptop today to remember Buddy and the joy he gave this world and you!
