Outside Looking In

There she is. My homeless kitty. I named her Pixie cause she used to hide in and around my garden like a Garden Pixie.I have 2 others. All abandoned by people who moved. And it makes me sad. How can you adopt a pet..and then leave it behind . How could you sleep at night? I never stop thinking about my pets..Buddy and my kittys. They mean the world to me.

Pixie has been here since Labor Day of 2008. For one year she hissed at me everytime I went to feed her. I know she had to have been abused. After about one year..of feeding her every day..twice a day...slowly..she let me pet her. And now we are pretty good buddies. She is such a sweet little cat.We have been making it through the storms pretty well.I have kept the shed door open for her with a bed in it and feed her morning and night. The others still come too. But Pixie looked so cute there this afternoon. The picture is through the screen door.

The other thing that got my attention today was that heroic dog rescue down in L.A.

I very rarely watch t.v. in the day, but turned it on to see if I could get a weather report..and then I saw it. The Rescue Attempt...I just happened to be flipping by and saw it on Fox News. I stopped and stood right in front of the t.v. My heart in my throat. It didn't look good. And then some beloved L.A. firefighter was dropped from a helicopter into a raging river.....to save a dog. Some people were emailing in coments questioning if L.A. firefighters had better things to do. I think not.

  1. I like you more and more all the time, Kary. We are just on the same wavelength, for sure.

  2. i watched that on tv too. the poor pup was shivering and wore an oxygen mask but they said he would be fine. what a brave firefighter to do that for this dog! your kitty looks soooo cute!

  3. Our little kitties. How sweet they all are and it never fails to make me puzzle how anyone could be mean to one?

  4. I completely agree with you! And I love this picture of Pixie. So glad she has you (and that you have her, too). You made me think of my brother down in Hilton Head. He has taken 11 rescued kitties into his home, and he feeds a large colony of feral kitties in the woods behind his antiques store. In fact, he has built them a little village of shelters! It's kind of magical.

Thanks for your lovely comment on my recent post! xo Gigi

  5. I agree with you! I also especially like this cat because it has the same colouring as the dear little kitten my daughter has just adopted!

  6. What a sweetie. Our cat, Pokey, has been with me for about 15 years. She's been in so many adventures and is so mean tempered when she goes to the vet the assistants always think she is a rescue cat. Kind of embarassing to admit i've raised her!

  7. I'm not a violent person by nature but when I see an animal (like Taylor who is sleeping on my bed and pissing off all "my" cats) who once belonged to someone and is now a stray, I want to hurt someone very much.

    Pixie is so sweet looking.

  8. thanks for dropping by and visiting today - glad i found you too

  9. Pixie is gorgeous! From the picture, she looks like a Calico. I'm not sure if it is common for the breed, but my Calico was always wary of people. We had her from the time she was a kitten until she died at 17 last year and she was never the friendly type. She merely tolerated being petted and never was one to enjoy being cuddled. We loved her anyway, even if she was a little "cold".

I haven't seen the video of the dog being rescued, but I'm sure it will show up on the internet. I can't believe anyone was put off by a fire fighter saving a poor, drowning dog. Some people have no compassion!

  10. I so am like CatBoy in that respect - my latent aggressivity can fully burst out when I witness or learn about animal abuse, and I want the exactly same thing done to those who do that.
My cat used to be a stray, too; I have written her "biography" here:

  11. Kary, I saw that dog rescue on the news as well...he bit the firefighter who said, "What do you expect, he was scared." I thought it was wonderful that he saved the dog.

Your kitty is sweet. Bless you for caring for him/her.

  12. Beautiful kitty! Firefighters are the best!

  13. I just look the rescue in youtube... It made me cry.... That poor dog, how can anyone think that is not worth save an animal life?!?
    Your Pixie looks so cute...

  14. interesting story...and a good point made, it seems a little over the top to do that kind of rescue.

  15. What better thing to do is there than rescue a living being? I didn't see it as it was happening, but did see it later on the news. It brought tears to my eyes.

Your kitty is so sweet and it is wonderful of you to give them food and love - and a soft bed in your shed. I've never understood how people can abandon pets - I used to rescue dogs who had been dumped in the canyons in San Diego. We lived not far from one and every once in a while one would appear and I would rescue it.

  16. happy little pixie found your warm heart!

  17. Looks like Pixie is homeless no more.
Hooray for Kary, and all of you kind people who give shelter and food to the abandoned
    animals of this world.
    donkey in the pines

  18. How people can turn loose their so called pets is beyond my comprehension. As for the rescued dog, hurrah for the LA Fire Department. I must say I was a little surprised at how far the Firemen were willing to go to rescue the dog. Isn't it refreshing to have a positive outcome, I think so!

  19. I am with YOU! So pleased to see that dog saved. I cringe to think of someone standing by and doing NOTHING.

Your sweet Pixie is cute! So glad you took her in. SAD...that so many people take in pets only to abandon them.

  20. Pixie has found a great place to live I think! And what a nice ending to the poor dog story...Hurray for the firefighters! (my son is one in FL :)
Always nice to hear from you Kary!

  21. Pixie is adorable ! And you're right, she looks just like Pearl (the one in my profile) except mine has long hair. I've been caring for cats for a little over 10 years now. The cats I take in are abandonned. I've even taken in entire litters once or twice. Of course, mine are all spayed and neutered. I make sure others in the neighborhood are as well.

When are people going to start taking responsability for their animals ?

  22. Bless you for taking care of the kitties. We do, too. They have the sweetest personalities when treated with kindness. ~Mandy

  23. Kindness to animals...in my opinion shows a good heart...I saw something similiar to your dog story where a dog was found in the Baltic sea on some floating ice and was rescued by a boat - how in the world did he get there?!

Your Pixie reminds me so much of our little Boris - see here: http://catofcuriosity.blogspot.com/2008/12/tribute-to-boris-tabby-cat.html

I think it is so so sinful of people to abandon pets...my mum said she'd have the culprits strung up and shot - though she is rather passionate about it! :) It is terrible though...but at least there are people out there like you and me, willing to adopt and care for them... :) xxx

Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by. I appreciate all your kind comments more than you can know.
