Only 2 more days to go till it's finally over. Why do i dislike January SO MUCH ! I try. Tell myself it's cozytime. Time to make hot chocolate and heart shaped cookies and get cozy by the fire. It doesn't work. I don't like it. So as I was hanging around the house ...John said ride with me to Cambria. So I did. And we took Buddy too. Cambria is about a half hour north of San Luis Obispo on the Senic Highway One. It runs along the Pacific ocean on one side and beautiful green pastures on the other. And with all the rain we have been having I thought we might see some wildflowers. And we did. The skies had cleared and all that was left were the big high puffy clouds. Somebody called them strawberry clouds. And when the sun hits them late in the afternoons..they sometimes do look the color of strawberries. We saw the yellow mustard coming up alongside the road. The story on that is when the priests were establishing the missions here in California, they would drop mustard seeds to form a path of yellow so that others following knew where to go...and now..in the spring it is all over...all over hillsides and vineyards....i just love it...i also saw a tree in bloom here in Cambria....and coming back down the coast we saw lovely views of Morro Rock sitting out in the sea....the ride was nice...actually it was a breath of spring air.....
What a poetic story of origin... and a beautiful drive!
And YES you are right! It is snowing here now! You wouldn't believe the way we folks act over a sprinkling of snow... the store was PACKED with people buying water and wine to prepare for a weekend of hibernation :)
We must be thinking alike because I just did a post today on bearing cold January. ;o) I just looked over at your sidebar & noticed your Happy Thoughts For January section; such a CUTE idea!! I love it! ~Lara
it sounds great for you there. but i still need to be buried in snow up to my eyeballs for at least a month or two until i can even think about spring.
This is such a beautiful post! Thank you for sharing the story of the priests spreading mustard seed...I love those kinds of stories :) And thank you for the sweet kindred spirit picture...i love it! Sending you wishes for a relaxed, rejuvinating weekend...January is almost squashed! Big Hug, Dawn p.s. curious what your thoughts are on my latest blog entry...
Your photos make me miss the coast!!! I must take my husband and doggies on a road trip as soon as I get back home. Time is marching by slowly or quickly depending on where you are looking at it from.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!! Demetra used to always talk about Highway 1. Through your photos I feel as though I am there. Absolutely gorgeous! I miss you too! We're home for the night, then heading back to the airport in the morning. I'm playing blog-catch-up:). I'll send you a note when we're back. We spoke to Matt's dad and found out that dear Luna misses us so much that she ran away for FOUR hours (not like her at all!). It's so hard to not just drive over there to pick her up and bring the poor pup home, but we're holding back....a few more days... Stay well, stay warm, goodbye January:).
Oh my goodness...nice beautiful spring like pix. I love the feeling it gives! Hurry spring hurry! I love getting out and taking a nice scenic ride....clears the head!
Oh, so beautiful! I miss the California country side and loved the gorgeous scenery driving on Highway One. You lucky woman!! Loved that story about the mustard seeds... Love, Silke
Very beautiful pics ...looks more like spring there than here...I think there are certain people that just need the sun's energy to feel good....I know that I'm one of them and January is a month I could do without too. Take care
It was only 22 degrees here today Kary...brrr! The California coastline is so beautiful! We drove highway one from San Francisco to Monterey one year...lovely drive.
We've had some more snow this week, but now at an almost subtropical +1 Celsius I hope it won't stick around much longer. Can't wait for the first snowdrops (in Germany they are called snow bells - and don't they indeed look like tiny bells?) to appear!
how pretty! it is so strange to me that early srping is in january here in california...it throws my clock off a bit, but i have to admit it lifts me a bit!
What a beautiful drive!! Such beautiful blue skies and ocean! Your coast is quite different from my coast - but equally lovely. Thanks for bringing us along!
I bet Buddy was in heaven to catch a glimpse of spring and frolic in its air. Sounds so lovely the story of the mustard seeds. And the photos are just beautiful.
Dearest Kary, just back from long dog walks in the frosty, sunny Sunday countryside. China tried to run over a puddle - she ended up doing the Bambi splits & looking very sheepish, I swear Alice was smirking at her misfortune! Then home to tomatoes on toast cooked by Paul & cups of coffee & a major blog visit to all my new friends. How lovely to read this gorgeous post and revisit Highway 1 in my mind. We drove it nearly 3 years ago on the way to Sue's bday from SF to SLO. Flowers everywhere & hard to keep the car straight while looking at the sparkling blue of the crashing Pacific. Just beautiful. This must have blown your winter blues right away for a while...and February is tomorrow & Spring is almost here! Thanks for the beauty & for being here! Love to Buddy from Alice & China, and mine to you....Rachel xoxo
THAT is your January? Ha! What do you say we switch places Kary? Huh? You know you want to experience these 20-something degree days on a daily basis. LOL!
One day I hope to drive along the California coast with my husband.
the night will never stay, the night will still go by, though with a million stars you pin it to the sky; though you bind it with the blowing wind, and buckle it with the moon, the night will slip away like sorrow or a tune.
What a poetic story of origin... and a beautiful drive!
