Between Storms

It's hard to believe that we are in for a whole week of rain next week. But I guess we are. So I decided to head out to the nursery today and pick up some springtime flowers before the rains hit. It is in the 70's again here today, so planting outside in the garden seemed like a good way to spend the day.The sun was shining on my back as as I planted fragrant stock, sunny yellow violas and linaria.

I picked up this flat of stock at The Hide Tide Nursery in Shell Beach just cause the colors looked so spring like. To tell you the truth, it was all they had. It was pretty slim pickings there. I asked the guy where all the flowers were and he just looked at me and said, "It's January, lady".

And the sunny morning went over pretty well for Whiskey Sour and Dandelion too.

  1. If it wasn't for the tails, you couldn't tell which end is which! Dogs and sunshine... it's a given!

  2. Oh, the ever fragrant Stock. It is a tried and true friend to my flower garden. How envious I am of your winter gardening abilities. I must ask, is your garden ever bothered by Japanese Beetles?

  3. What a sweet peaceful visit today. Nothing soothes the soul like flowers and sun shining in the window... Just what I need after watching the evening news

  4. I wish I loved to garden. I love looking at other people's gardens. I love hearing how much they love to garden. I love beautiful flowers. I just don't like to plan it out or plant it. I had 3 children hoping one of them will have an intense love for it, and rescue our yard. Holly:)

  9. Such a treat to see a sneak peak of spring here.... where we take a risk of frozen flowers if we plant before Memorial Day!

  10. Hi Kary! Well, I read your post and went out & bought paperwhites, tete a tete's & white hyadcinths in pots and almost ready to pop! As the man said 'It's January, Lady' and it's the best i could do at the moment, but it's reminded me - along with the thaw that's set in- that Spring will come again, and not too long to wait! Thanks for the beautiful post & lovely kitty pictures (although Alice didn't like them ONE BIT!!) xoxox Rachel

  13. Oh I love the pictures. 70's!!! Sounds fabulous! I don't mind the cold if there's snow and something to do, but right now it's just plain cold.
The cats are adorable!! My cat likes to lay on his back. I guess it means he's comfortable.

    Happy Weekend,
    Jen
