I took Buddy for a walk around our neighborhood. This is the street we live on here in San Luis Obispo. The neighborhood is over 100 years old and we are in what is called "The Historic Raliroad District" I LOVE hearing the train.Anytime of the day, really. Sometimes in the middle of the night I will lay awake and listen for it coming from over the hill. And the little Del Monte Cafe is right across the street. John and I sneek in the backdoor in our pajamas sometimes for supper. It is cozy and farmy and old fashion. I've known the owner Debbie forever. She and her son Travis run it. And the food is realy good too. Comforting knowing they are there.
What a great walking neighborhood! And when you round the corner home, bet you can smell what you've got in the oven for supper, and maybe even desert. Apple crisp tonight? With black twig apples?
What a neat neighborhood. I love the older houses with character. So welcoming! I know exactly what you mean about hearing the train. A few times in my life, I've lived near the tracks and even near the station. The whistle and the rumble on the tracks are comforting sounds in the night. Thanks for the walk!
I love your neighborhood, it is so cute. What a great place to live and to get to walk in. You are very lucky and to have such a wonderful little diner so close. We hear trains at our house also and I love it.
Of course you know I love your neighborhood. Now I need to ask a favor. I'm working on another book about simple joys. See new entry and send me one of your simple joys.
I love that you live on such a charming street. To know the owner of the restaurant across the street and to go in in your pajamas...I would love that:)
I think it's so neat that you love to hear the train at ANY time. I think I would be angry to hear it coming in the night... then again, I can see how it could bea comforting and fascinating sound.
the night will never stay, the night will still go by, though with a million stars you pin it to the sky; though you bind it with the blowing wind, and buckle it with the moon, the night will slip away like sorrow or a tune.
What a great walking neighborhood!
