My Favorite Place On Earth

This is it. Deetjens Big Sur Inn. On the Pacific Coast Of California. Julie and I have stayed here many times on our way to Carmel, San Francisco and Napa Valley. It is simple and charming....all the food served is grown in the organic garden out back. Cats and dogs sleep stretched out on the porch. Woodsmoke fills the ocean air. A fire is always smoldering in the fireplace in the dining room. Classical music plays throughout. A large wood bar serves tea in the morning...wine in the evening.Bouquets of wildflowers and stacks of old books fill every room.I am trying the best I can to make Farmhouse like Deetjens. There really isn't much more to say. The pictures say it all.

  1. It looks absolutely wonderful. My husband and I use to stay at places like that until we got our 2 dogs, now we just camp. But we do have our nice little camper. Your menu for tonight sounds delicious.

  7. And how about the way they have a fresh stack of chopped oak ourside your door for your fireplace? (Kary's favorite) and I'm putting in an extra special plug for the creme brulee. Sometimes when you take a taste of something, even just a smidgen, you're teleported for an instant to heaven?
    yes, its that good.
Wonder if they'd share the recipie?

  17. Thanks so much for stopping by to say hello. I hope you'll come visit my main blog some day, too. I'd love to see you there. We can talk recipes. Ok, not really. Because as much as I love to read a good cookbook, I rarely cook. I'm strange, I know. Anyway, hello. And happy Valentine's Day to you and yours.

  20. Many years ago, my brother and I took a trip to the States, one of the things we did was rent a car to drive from San Francisco San Diego, The Pacific Highway was beautiful, especially The Big Sur, unfortunatelty we stayed in Motels, I wish we could have stayed somewhere as cosy and lovely as Deetjens, but we were young and poor at the time.
