Sharon and I have been friends for nearly 40 years. I was the first person to work in her shop in Cambria called "Heart's Ease". It was the best job I ever had. I learned about herbs and gardening and all things New England. And I was hooked. Forever. And now all these years later I am still "pretending" that I live in New England. Sharon and Jeff live half of the year here in San Luis Obispo and half at their cottage in Christmas Cove, South Bristol, Maine. So we miss seeing each other for about six months every year. Sharon and Jeff are home.... and it was girls day out. We have a mutual friend, Susie Bassetti who came "over the hill" from Cambria to meet us for lunch in Paso Robles. We ate at "Artisan" and we had a lovely time. Susie brought us each homemade foccacia and olive bread made from the olives on their farm. Lucky us ! After lunch, Susie had to get back to tend to things at the farm and Sharon and I headed out for a late fall drive. Just to catch up. Girls-style.
Lovely! One thing I miss SO MUCH moving around once a year is having little outings with good girlfriends.
ReplyDeleteGood lord even just the sign in the window has got me hooked on that place! Glad to hear you make time for the ladies in your life...nothing more important than friends I think.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fabulous day packed full of fun, food & friendship!
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific day, and thank you for bringing us along, too!
ReplyDeleteThe photos of your drive were great. And I was surprised by the little potted herbs - around here we can't think about those until next April or May! You are so lucky to live where things are still green outside!
Hi. I discovered your blog a few days ago and I really enjoy it. We used to go camping in San Simeon every summer. It was so nice to be able to go into Cambria to shop and the pizza place there, I can't remember the name of it, was so good. Oh, and their cinnamon rolls! We went a couple of years ago for our anniversary. The whole family; us, the kids, and two dogs! The nursery in Cambria is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSince you are really into cooking I'll give you the link to a friend of mine's blog on Allrecipes. It is really funny and she gives lots of good recipes. The name of it is "He's Not the Apple of My Pie." www.allrecipes.com/Cook/13415407/Profile.aspx
I'm glad you had a wonderful time with your friend. Close friends are just as important as family in my mind. Hopefully you'll get to visit New England soon!

Hey K-Bird,
ReplyDeleteIt WAS a great day. Great food, great girlfriends, and great putzing around through the backroads and country. I loved the flock of 50 Western bluebirds and the red and golden leaves everywhere.
Also love the crocks of butter we found at Nature's Touch.
Susie Bassetti's foccacia and olive bread are fantastic. We tasted both today.
Love,
S
You're so right about enjoying time with girlfirends! I very often arrange for an all girls luncheon or dinner. Having a meal is a favorite passtime .. of course, this is France!
ReplyDeleteToday is a public holiday here and I am having lunch with a 25 year old friend who moved to Provence 5 years ago and I miss very much, and then going to an exhibition and the Georges Pompidou musueum with another girlfriend. So it's my grils' day out!
Sounds like you need to visit Sharon in Christmas Cove more often! I would! Even just for the name! :)
ReplyDeleteSo nice that you all take time to really enjoy one another's company.
Sounds wonderful - wish I had a place like that close to home
